CHANGE IN BUSINESS
An important business change in Shamrock, during the past week, was
the dissolution of Robertson Brothers. Warren K. Robertson retains the
corner lot, Tipperary and Dublin avenue, together with the building
and general store of groceries, dry goods, etc., while G.A. Robertson
has the two lots adjoining on the west long Tipperary Road, with the
building and stock of hardware. It is understood that G.A. Robertson
will at once erect a substantial business building on his lots.

FRATES SON TAKES A JOB
Joe Frates, son of General Superintendent J.A. Frates of the Frisco
lines, has taken a job in the Shamrock station of the Sapulpa Oil &
Field railroad as baggage master under Superintendent H.B. Granlee.
Young Frates is beginning at the bottom to learn the railroad game.
His father started as telegraph operator.

PUTTING IN SIDEWALKS
Through the efforts of Justice of the Peace Lake, Shamrock is being
given a system of crushed stone sidewalks. The city prisoners are going
the work and at the present time the work is progressing nicely, with
a walk being laid down Tipperary hill to the railroad station. It is
Lake’s intention to use all persons charged with vagrancy, drunkenness
and other such offenses on the construction of the walks. A gang of
seven negroes comprised the original force and this has been augmented
by several white offenders.

S.B. Logan the drilling contractor was badly burned at his home, several
nights ago, he attempted to light a gas mantle; the line had broken
and the escaping gas was ignited by the match; his face an hands were
severely burned.

R.B. Leeks, a banker of Custer City Okla., was a business visitor at
the townsite office Tuesday, with Ed Harrison of the Tri-State Livery.

Rufus Highnote he of 19 notches on his gun fame, and cousin, J.B. White,
has left Shamrock for Tulsa, where they have established a detective
agency.

E.K. Frank acting mayor of Oilton is putting up a two-story business
building on Tipperary Road two doors east of the Erin Hotel.

E.B. Ham known in Stroud as “Hurry Up” Ham has sold out
everything in Stroud to live in Shamrock; he is building a six room
residence on Fourth street near Bantry avenue.

Mr. Edna Jenness has returned home to the Hotel Erin after a several
weeks visit in Oilton and Oklahoma City.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Griswold and son George, are now at home in their
new residence on Fourth street between Bantry and Dublin avenue.

Postmaster Virgil Morgan was called to Dougherty, Okla., Monday by a
telegram announcing the serious illness of his father.

L. Worsham of the Electric company of Kansas City was a business visitor
in Shamrock, Friday. He says Poteau and Shamrock are the two live spots
in Oklahoma at the present time.

Mrs. Blattenberg of Wellston, traveling cashier for the Pioneer Telephone
company has been a visitor at the Shamrock exchange during the past
week.

BLARNIES
John Farris, the Shamrock-Oilton merchant, has been offered $25,000
for the gas rights on his lease near Muskogee, where a big gas well
was recently brought in.

H.E. Breeding, the cashier in charge of the First State Bank, was a
former Oklahoma City boy, a graduate from the high school there.

L.H. Bailey of Leedy, Okla., has purchased four lots on Seventh street,
near Bantry and will build a home and bring his family here.

Alex Den, one of the best known of the Bulgarians here, has purchased
a business lot on West Tipperary and will erect a building.

Mrs. G.B. Sherritt has arrived from Stecher and joined her husband,
owner of the Shamrock Hardware company.

Miss Ida Kent of West Virginia has arrived here to visit with her cousin,
Mrs. J.J. Hastings, at the Oklahoma Natual pumping station.

Mrs. M.H. Newman of Cushing ahs been here during the past week, visiting
with her husband, Dr. M.H. Newman. She will soon make Shamrock her home.

ESTRAY NOTICE----J.M. Martin has taken up at his place of business,
at the corner of Second street and Bantry avenue, in Shamrock, on February
12, 1916, a sorrel mare, perhaps eight years old, bald-faced, smooth
mouthed, about 14 hands high, with M.C. branded on her left shoulder,
and is holding her at that place for the owner.

Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hughes, formerly of Guthrie, were in Shamrock during
the past week, coming from Des Moines, Iowa, and may locate here.

A.B. Budlong of Pawhuska has purchased from the Jondahls their store
building and lot at the corner of Dublin and Tipperary. The Johndahls
will continue their furniture business in the building.

Don Churchill has taken a position with A. Newton in the Newton Hardware
store.

Guy L. Soule and M.H. Garton have purchased lots on Sixth street, near
Bantry, and will erect homes there immediately.

“Bob” Matlock has been engaged the past two weeks clearing
up additional land for industrial and oil company buildings and yards.

Fred Cargin, The Gurthrie wholesale lumber merchant, was a business
visitor in shamrock during the past week.

Mrs. Edna Crumley of Sapulpa, a real estate dealer, was in Shamrock
during the past week, the guest of Mrs. Joseph Dunham.

John Murphy of the Citizens bank has erected a building on Dublin avenue,
back of the bank, to be occupied by Dr. Martin, who comes here from
Gwynne.

D.R. Mays of the Mymax cigar store claims the distinction of being the
first foreman of a coroner’s jury in Shamrock; he acted in such
capacity in the case of W.W. (Mike) Knorr, the aged citizen who shot
himself here several days ago.

Messrs, Gillespie and Owens are arranging to have their drugstore open
on February 22, on the first floor of the Dr. Newman building on the
southside of Tipperary Road.

Guy L. Soule is establishing a home laundry on Sixth street, four blocks
north of the townsite office. He guarantees his work.

Mrs. C.O. Wagoner and child arrived today from Cushing to join her husband
manager of the F.D. Misener Lumber company’s local yards, and
will make this her home. Mr. Wagner will build a residence at once.

L.A. Boone of Sapulpa has opened his market in the 2-story building
he recently completed on Third street, near the corner of Terry avenue.

E.H. Newkirk now of the Sapulpa glass factory, was here Sunday and will
erect a stone business building on Tipperary Road, two doors east of
the townsite office.

F.J. White and family have moved to Shamrock from Chanute, Kan., and
will make this their home. He is a pumper for the Prairie company and
a brother of Frank White of the Shamrock café.

E.M. Morgan of the Shamrock hotel is away from home on a several weeks
visit at Shawnee and other points.

Col Tom Payton who came here recently from Jennings has bought out T.L.
Teel’s merchant transfer business, the latter returning to Oilton.

was a business visitor in Tulsa over Sunday.

“Bill” Kerwin, drilling contractor on the Oglesby lease
south of town, spent Sunday and Monday with his family in Tulsa.

Inspector McPherson of the federal conservation bureau has been in Shamrock
for the past ten days.

George Wakefield, assistant superintendent of the Atlas construction
company is one of the head men busy on the construction of the Sapulpa
& Oil Field railroad here.

Mrs. J.H. Palmer and children have located in Shamrock from Jennings
joining Mr. Palmer who has been here since the first days.

Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Fisk have located here from Oilton; he is interested
in the Killarney theater which is to open soon.

Henry Fulton of Oilton and Charles Wampler were surveying additional
industrial yards here during the past week.

The Pioneer Telephone company has erected a tool house and repair shop
on the company’s lot on Dublin avenue.

Charles Johnson, formerly in business in old Shamrock has opened a blacksmith
shop on Second street near Bantry avenue.

J.A. Walker of Sapulpa has purchased a lot on East Tipperary Road and
has erected a building in which he is conducting a retail ice business.
He was formerly in the ice business at Delaware and Kiefer.

L.E. Woodruff, who owns the café where Tipperary Road turns toward
the depot, will erect a thirty-foot two-story addition to his building
at once, establishing a rooming house.

Mrs. H.G. Baker, wife of the Gypsy Oil company’s local manager
was a visitor in Shamrock from Gwynne, the first of the week.

Mike Eneff, who owns the bakery on Tipperary Road between Dublin and
Killarney, is having an addition completed to his building for café
purposes.

L.J. Massed of the Star Mercantile company has installed complete line
of groceries to his general stock of goods.

Walter McMann Oil company has been in the Shamrock field during the
past week.

O.S. Gould has been placed in the Shamrock district by the Oklahoma
Natural Gas company as chief in charge of instpection, repariring and
reading of meters. He comes here from the Tulsa office and succeeds
“Happy” Edwards who has been transferred to a similar position
with the Caney River Gas company. Gould has jurisdiction throughout
the entire Cushing field.

Mrs. F. A. Newton of Kansas City, MO., has arrived here to live. Her
husband is owner of the Newton Hardware store on Tipperary Road.

W. E. Brown cashier at the American National bank of Sapulpa visited
here Wednesday with cashier H.E. Breeding of the First State bank.

Pat Chaney and Mike O’Neal of the Sapulpa & Oil Field are
sending the Brogue back to home folks in Dublin, Ireland.
